The year 2020 brought us a handful of hardships and sorrows. A pandemic which has taken over the world by storm, a hidden enemy, and a silent killer, 'Coronavirus'. Besides people getting affected by the virus and many people losing their lives, there is one more thing that has affected us a lot and that is unemployment.

Due to this pandemic, people are compelled to maintain social distance, closing their small businesses, people experiencing lay-offs causing unemployment, and financial hardship for families. According to the latest reports, about 20.5 million people in the United States are unemployed as of 30th April 2020. Unemployment offices are receiving hundreds of thousands of applications on a daily basis.

We may have taken precautions to protect ourselves from the virus but don't you think it is affecting many people with financial hardships, hunger problems. People not being able to pay their mortgage, utility bills, buy groceries. Most of the taxpayers received Stimulus payment by the government in April, which includes $1200 for single tax filers and $2400 for joint filers plus an additional $500 for every dependent child 16 or under years of age.

Does this fulfill the requirement for every unemployed person in the country? It may have provided relief to people for a month but this pandemic doesn't look like going away soon. I think our government should provide more stimulus checks to our citizens during these hard times. People claimed as dependent by their parents and above 16 years of age should be getting a bigger stimulus check as a whole person is claimed as a dependent and people need money to take care of their dependents no matter how old they are. It requires money to feed and provide for a dependent too.

The best thing as an individual we can do during this time in quarantine is to learn new skills. Create your professional profile on websites like LinkedIn, connect with people on Facebook. Contact your previous employers, build your professional relationships. Develop more professional Links. Create multiple Resumes and look for online jobs as these days companies are looking for people who can work from home. This pandemic has changed our world, we have to change ourselves too, to fight this pandemic.

Nature has given us a chance to restart our lives, to learn from this tough experience, and to become better than ever. Keep moving, keep working hard, always you remember it takes one step to change your life. Take a step towards your better future. Live, Learn, and Love! Never Give Up!
